Mary M. Melton, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Melton, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Melton celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Since 1989, Dr. Melton has been on the board of directors at the August Corporation. She is also the owner of the Ohio Intervention Center and Integrated Court Services, a grant writer, and the task force chairman of Vietnam Veterans of New Mexico. From 1989 to 2016, she spent time as the owner and president of ETC at Ohio, Inc. Additionally, she was the chief executive officer at the Alcohol Drug Abuse Treatment Services, Inc., from 1989 to 1991 and as an executive director at the Miami County Mental Health Center in Miami, OH, from 1984 to 1986.

On top of these endeavors, Dr. Melton acted as consultant for the WORAC in Dayton, OH, from 1978 to 1983 and chief financial officer of August Corporation in 1989. As an owner and president, she spent time with the Southern New Mexico D.W.I. Programs from 1988 to 1990 and Melton-Scott Enterprises in Tipp City, OH, from 1983 to 1986. Following this post, she was an administrator for the Valley View Hospital in Las Cruces, NM, for two years.

From 1983 to 1986, Dr. Melton served as the vice president of the Dettmer Hospital Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, OH. Prior to taking on this role, she acted as clinical director at the Bureau of Alcoholism Services in Dayton, OH, for five years. From 1975 to 1977, she was a therapist at Greene Hall in the Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia, OH. Her first professional post was teaching at Dayton Public Schools from 1972 to 1974.

Throughout her life, Dr. Melton has experienced a turbulent relationship with her mother. At one point in her career, her mother invited her to be the key note speaker at an event. She recognizes this as the highlight of her career and a highlight of her relationship with her mother. She recalls that her father had an influence on her career path because he was always helping people as a minister.

Dr. Melton began her academic pursuits at McMurry University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. From there, she attended Wright State University and received a Master of Science in 1978. She continued her studies at Columbia Pacific University and graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1983.

Ultimately, Dr. Melton obtained a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, in 1986. Beyond these degrees, Dr. Melton earned certifications as an addictions specialist and a criminal profiler. She is also a nationally certified criminal justice specialist, a state licensed private investigator and a certified sex offender evaluator.

Now, Dr. Melton maintains her involvement in the academic community as a member of the National Association of Female Executives, the American College of Health Care Administrators, the Association of Mental Health Administrators, and Sigma Delta Tau. She also holds membership in such prestigious organizations as the Association of Alcohol-Drug Abuse Counselors, where she was president, the Ohio chapter of the National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, and the National Association of Alcoholism Counselors.

Aside from her professional endeavors, Dr. Melton enjoys writing, gardening, doing needle crafts, participating in sports and going to the gun range. Beyond this, she remodeled a 108-year-old house. For all of her achievements in the field, she was given multiple certificates of appreciation as well as the Citizen Deputy Sheriff Award in 2018.
