Prior to this appointment, Mr. Meltzer worked from associate to the managing board of Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge from 1973 to 2005. Additionally, he was also the executive editor of Technology Law Notes from 1986 to 1992.
Mr. Meltzer graduated cum laude from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1968 before receiving both a Master of Business Administration with high distinction and Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard University in 1973. He is admitted to practice by the Maryland State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar and the Virginia State Bar. Mr. Meltzer served in the United States Army Reserves from 1968 to 1974.
Mr. Meltzer is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, District of Columbia Bar, Maryland State Bar, National Association of Corporate Directors, Mid-Atlantic Venture Association, Northern Virginia Technology Council, Biotechnology Industry Organization, the Harvard Business School Club and the Economic Club of Washington, DC.
The board chairman of the New England Institute of Technology since 1989, Mr. Meltzer has held leadership positions with several other educational and civic organizations, such as the Maryland Technology Council, the University of Maryland College of Life Sciences, and Kauffman Foundation FastTrac Program, among others.
Mr. Meltzer has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Entrepreneurial Navigator Award from the Northern Virginia Technology Council. He has also been named a BTI Client Service All-Star, Best Lawyers in America since 2006 and ranked as one of the Top Corporate Lawyers in the Country by Chambers USA since 2007.
