With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Dominguez has been recognized as Antonio Madero professor of government at Harvard University since 2006, emeritus since 2018, having been the Clarence Dillon professor for international affairs since 1996. In addition to his primary role, he has been chair of the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies from 2004 to 2018, vice provost for international affairs from 2006 to 2015, and director of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs from 1996 to 2006. From 1990 to 1993, Dr. Dominguez was chair of Latin American and Iberian Studies, having held the position from 1979 to 1983. He served as Frank G. Thomson Professor of government from 1993 to 1996, having worked from assistant professor to professor from 1972 to 1993.
Dr. Dominguez began his career as a student at Yale University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1967. He subsequently joined Harvard University, completing a Master of Arts in 1968. He concluded his studies with the institution in 1972, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in political science. Dr. Dominguez is the former president of the Latin American Studies Association, the New England Council of Latin American Studies, and the Institute of Cuban Studies.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dominguez has been recognized for his achievements, including with the Lifetime Academic Award from the Cuba section of the Latin American Studies Association. Harvard University recognized him as a junior fellow and they awarded him the Joseph Levenson Memorial Teaching Award. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in American Politics and Who's Who in the East.
