Susan Lynne McDowell Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. McDowell has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the education industry

LIVERPOOL, NY, November 07, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Susan Lynne McDowell with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. McDowell celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Beginning in June 2017, Ms. McDowell has been a Typist 1 in the Syracuse City School District in New York. Prior to this position, her special education teaching assignments have included 15:1 self-contained classes at both the elementary and high school levels, Resource Room at the middle school level, and Co-Teaching at the elementary level in the Phoenix Central School District in New York from 1992 to 2015. Her professional career began when she took a position as a 9:3:1 preschool special education teacher at Oswego County Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Fulton, NY, from 1991 to 1992.

Ms. McDowell considers the highlight of her career to be the time she spent with one special education student in particular. She taught her in elementary school when she was having a difficult time emotionally while her parents were divorcing. She maintained contact when she was in middle and high school as well. Motivated to succeed, her student was accepted at BOCES as a GED student, and ultimately graduated as a result. Ms. McDowell was able to celebrate this student's accomplishments at her graduation party. Later in life, she would babysit for Ms. McDowell. Another female student that Ms. McDowell has a special memory of was a ninth grader who portrayed herself to others as a "tough girl." However, as Ms. McDowell learned more about this student, she realized the student's behavior was a defense mechanism and was very touched when she received a hand painted pottery set of the three Wise Men as a Christmas gift from her. Last, Ms. McDowell remembers a kind, energetic athletically-gifted general education second grader who was placed in the Integrated Co-Teaching classroom where she worked. Ms. McDowell was unaware of the impression she made on him, so, seven years later, she was really moved when he told her she was his favorite teacher. The small moments such as these had a tremendous impact on her and kept her motivated to keep making a difference in the lives of her students.

Her academic pursuits began at the State University of New York at Fredonia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1987. She continued her studies at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY, graduating with a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education in 1989 and receiving a special education certificate in 1991. She is now a certified teacher in the state of New York for kindergarten through 12th grade.

When Ms. McDowell was in middle school, she loved to care for young children and regularly babysat. When she was a senior in high school, she taught kindergarten class at church. When she began college, she studied computer science, but quickly realized she was meant to be a teacher and adjusted course during her second semester. As a teacher, she regularly developed and/or curriculum for her students. She holds membership with the Council for Exceptional Children and Kappa Delta Pi. When the school day ends and summer break begins, Ms. McDowell enjoys reading, exercising, and experiencing new vacation destinations. She was previously selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among Young American Professionals, Who's Who of Young American Women, and Who's Who in American Education.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Susan Lynne McDowell has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
