SAN FRANCISCO, CA, November 08, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Michael Ferguson, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Ferguson celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Ferguson's most noteworthy accomplishments are in the fields of philosophy, cultural history, psychoanalytic theory and literary criticism. With over forty publications in academic and literary journals, he has made solid contributions that have altered perceptions in his areas of focus and pushed back against entrenched prejudices that others in the academic world may have been unwilling or unable to take on. Dr. Ferguson's independence from the academic world has given him enormous freedom in his research choices and an ability to put forth bold, unconventional views that may not find immediate acceptance.
The famous psychoanalyst, Heinz Kohut, was an important mentor to Dr. Ferguson in his formative years. Dr. Kohut had a profound and lasting impact on his life and his thinking. Dr. Kohut was putting forth an innovative, transformative approach to psychoanalytic theory, and understood the power of prejudice and the implications of challenging the established order. Dr. Ferguson was an early supporter in that revolutionary approach to psychoanalytic theory.
Dr. Ferguson earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from The Ohio State University in 1975. He was awarded a scholarship sponsored by the German-American Federation to spend one year in Germany as a student at a German university. He spent from 1975 to 1976 in Germany, initially at the Goethe Institut in Freiburg, learning German, passing the German admissions exam, and studying for the academic year as a regular student at Friedrich Alexander Universität in Erlangen.
He obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in philosophy from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1982. He was later certified as a teacher of English as a foreign language at the Transworld English Academy in San Francisco in 1995.
From about the age of forty, Dr. Ferguson has increasingly gravitated toward the arts. From an early age, he had a strong interest in the piano. It underwent a long neglect after high school, but revived again in his forties. He performed in the master class at Piano Texas, sponsored by the Van Cliburn Foundation for amateur pianists in 2004.
He has been a long-time photographer and exhibited shows at the Photo Center in San Francisco in 2004 and 2006. He has exhibited his own hand crafted cabochons and opals at shows of the San Francisco Gem Society. He wrote and directed three one act plays that were performed at the Fringe of Marin, Dominican University in San Rafael, CA, in 2011 and 2012 for which he won an award for directing. In recent years, he has become attracted to printmaking and has contributed linoleum block prints to the Roadworks Festival of the San Francisco Center for the Book in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and also to the Winterfest event of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. He is a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists and has made numerous mosaics. Since 2014, he has participated in over 30 sanctioned USA Table Tennis Tournaments and won several trophies.
In light of his many accomplishments and breadth of interests, Dr. Ferguson has been featured in Who's Who in America. In recognition of his lifetime of outstanding work across numerous fields, Dr. Michael Ferguson has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website.
