A highly esteemed chemist and educator with more than 50 years of experience, Dr. Desio is currently retired, having been recognized as professor emeritus at the University of New Haven since 2003. In 1966, he initially served the University of New Haven as an instructor. Later holding the position of associate professor, Dr. Desio worked for the University of New Haven as a chemistry professor from 1979 to 2003 as well as the chairman of the chemistry department from 1976 to 1980.
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Dr. Desio received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Boston College. He concluded his studies with a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry from the University of New Hampshire, where he also obtained a teaching fellowship. Dr. Desio began his career in 1964 as a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
A fellow of the American Chemical Society, Dr. Desio was also advisor to the University of New Haven's chemistry club and has contributed numerous articles for professional journals. Outside his professional responsibilities, he is a member of several civic organizations including the Columbus Day Committee of Greater New Haven, the Saint Catello Society, the Italian-American Historical Society of Connecticut, and Lodge 37 of the Order of Sons and Daughters of Italy.
Prior to his retirement, Dr. Desio held memberships at various times in the Chemical Education Division and the New Haven Section of the American Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the New York Academy of the Sciences, the American Association of University Professors, and the Society of College Science Teachers. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Desio was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in the East.
