Ms. Schmidt began her career as a traffic analyst in the United States Army from 1973 to 1985. Following this appointment, she worked as an auditor for the Office of Legislative Audits in Baltimore, MD, from 1990 to 1993. From 1993 to 2000, she served as a financial analyst for the Maryland Insurance Administration in Baltimore, and after this opportunity, she was a teacher of mathematics at Baltimore City Public Schools from 2000 to 2010. During this time, Ms. Schmidt was also part of the adjunct faculty at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore from 2006 to 2009.
Prior to embarking on her career, Ms. Schmidt received an Associate of Arts, summa cum laude, from Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD, in 1987. In 1990, she earned a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from the University of Baltimore in Maryland. She concluded her education in 2003 with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Schmidt is also a certified public accountant in the state of Maryland.
In addition to her career, Ms. Schmidt was a tutor for the Anne Arundel County Literacy Council in Pasadena, MD, from 1990 to 1997. During this time, she was also a mentor at the University of Baltimore in 1991 and acted as a host family for the American Intercultural Student Exchange from 1992 to 1998. She is a member of the University of Baltimore Alumni Association, Phi Theta Kappa, Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Chi. In 2001, Ms Schmidt was named Teacher of Year by the PTA Council of Baltimore City.
Ms. Schmidt found her career as a teacher when she noticed her niece struggling with math and she used her accounting degrees as a stepping stone to becoming a math teacher. She taught AP statistics as well as algebra, and she considers the most gratifying aspect of her career to be when former students tell her that thanks to her AP statistics class in high school, they had a better grasp of the subject in college. Ms. Schmidt has previously been selected for inclusion in the sixth edition of Who's Who in American Education and multiple editions of Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
