With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Blythe has been a historian and documentarian of "The History, Mystery, Magic of the Dark Corner, South Carolina" since 2006 and co-owner of Chappell Creek Press since 1988. In addition to her primary roles, she was a curator of the Upcountry History Museum from 2006 to 2010. Earlier in her career, Dr. Blythe was an educator with various public schools in the states of South Carolina and Georgia.
Dr. Blythe began her career as a student at the University of South Carolina, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1970. She continued her studies with the school, completing a Master of Education in Media Arts in 1975. Later in her career, she returned to her studies, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1987. Dr. Blythe is a member of the South Carolina Historical Society, the Greenville Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. Blythe has lent her expertise in her community in a number of capacities. She was a visiting lecturer of American literature for the Chinese University of Hong Kong, an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina, and a conference director of the South Carolina Committee of the Humanities. Along with publishing scholarly articles and books, she is the author of Carolina Mountain Song, a novel, and a book of poetry, Life Twice Loved, and she was a producer for South Carolina Educational Radio and Television programs. Her production of "South Carolina Women Writers from the 18th-20th century" is a regular feature on SCETV.
Throughout her career, Dr. Blythe has been recognized for her contributions, having been named a William Gilmore Simms Fellow, a Richard M. Weaver Fellow, and an Institute for Editing Historical Documents Fellow. She was a grantee of the Charleston Cultural Science Education Foundation and the Earhart Foundation. Dr. Blythe has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who of American Women. In her free time, Dr. Blythe enjoys gardening, hiking, reading, writing and oil painting.
