Beginning in 1995, Dr. Sul has been an assistant clinical professor at Michigan State University in Lansing, MI. While serving in this role, he acted as the president of Lakeside Neurology, PC, in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, from 2005 to 2016. His first professional post was as a clinical instructor at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, from 1981 to 1982.
Aside from his primary endeavors, Dr. Sul was a member of the neuroscience advisory group at St. John Health Systems from 2004 to 2006, chief neurology section at the St. John Northeast Community Hospital in Detroit, MI, from 2002 to 2003, and clinical assistant professor at the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine beginning in 2000. From 1998 to 1999, he was an adjunct clinical assistant professor at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Science.
Civically, Dr. Sul provided medical and civic service during the Korean-American Airborne joint operation in the Republic of Korea in 1973 and worked on medical missionary to Mongolia in 2016, China in 1997, and Thailand in 1994. Involved with the Christian Association Medical Mission of Detroit, he served as president from 1999 to 2001 and secretary from 1991 to 1995. Also involved with the Korean United Methodist Church in Detroit, MI, he was the chairperson of the board of trustees in 2001 and the chairperson on the administrative board from 1997 to 1998. From 2008 to 2009, he acted as the president of Severance Alumni Association of Michigan.
Dr. Sul pursued a formal education at Yonsei University in Seoul, Republic of Korea, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1972. Following his graduation, he served as a captain in the Republic of Korea Army from 1972 to 1975. Furthermore, he is a diplomate of neurology and clinical neurophysiology from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He decided to enter this field after growing up in a poor country that lacked medical care. He is driven to help others and gained a passion for neurology from one of his professors.
As a respected professional in the academic community, Dr. Sul maintains membership with such prestigious organizations as the American Medical Association, the Korean American Medical Association of Michigan, where he served as president in 2009, the Michigan State Medical Society, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, and the American Academy of Neurology. Moreover, he is a fellow of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Dr. Sul has provided compassionate care to patients for more than 30 years and was recognized and honored by St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in 2012. From 1981 to 1982, he was a grantee of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Though these are impressive accolades, he is most proud of his work he completed during his four trips to North Korea with the Christian Association of Medicine Mission. He has previously been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
