With more than 15 years of professional experience, Dr. Gao retired in 1999, having been a principal chemical engineer for BDM Petroleum Technologies and the Northrop Grumman Corporation since 1996. Prior to obtaining these roles, he worked as the principal chemical engineer for BDM-Oklahoma, Inc. and the National Institute for Petroleum and Energy Research from 1994 to 1996. Earlier in his career, Dr. Gao excelled as a senior engineer for the National Institute for Petroleum and Energy Research from 1984 to 1993.
Dr. Gao was inspired to pursue a career in the field by a desire to combine his interests in chemistry and engineering. He began his career at National Taiwan University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1968. He subsequently relocated to the United States to study at the University of Utah, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical engineering in 1979. Dr. Gao concluded his studies with the University of Utah as a postdoctoral research associate from 1979 to 1983.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. Gao has been active with a number of organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and Sigma Xi. He has contributed articles to such esteemed publications as the Journal of Rheology, Metallurgical Trans B, Macromolecules, Encyclopedia of Engineering Materials, SPE Reservoir Engineering, SPE Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering. He has further completed research for the United States Department of Energy. A leader in his community, Dr. Gao has also led fundraisers for the American Heart Association.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gao has been recognized for his contributions. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
