Sally L. Phillips Altman Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Altman has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of middle and high school education



    GRANITE BAY, CA, November 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sally L. Phillips Altman with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Altman celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Combining her love for swimming, health and teaching, Ms. Altman married her passions by becoming a physical education teacher. Both she and her husband started their teaching careers at the College of the Sequoias in 1957. She focused her efforts in middle and high school education three years later. Finding her niche, Ms. Altman continued teaching at this level for the remainder of her career while raising three sons. Also she taught swimming during the summers to all age groups.

During her tenure, Ms. Altman taught in schools throughout Visalia, Modesto, Auburn, Roseville and Granite Bay, California. She eventually retired in 1996 as a teacher and coach for the Wilma Cavitt Junior High School. Remaining active in the field, Ms. Altman worked part-time as a substitute teacher for a few more years.

Ms. Altman was honored to participate as a swimmer in a special services water show in both Japan and Korea for the United States Armed Forces in 1955. In the field, she held the positions of synchronized swim coach for the department of recreation for the City of Roseville, Calif., from 1976 to 1980, instructor and trainer for the American Red Cross of Sacramento and Auburn from 1988 to 1994, and a consultant for the National Evaluation Systems from 1996 to 2001. Ms. Altman also served as a session presenter for various workshops, as a counselor for Tech Trek Camps at both Stanford University and the University of California, Davis, as the co-chairman of the Tech Trek Committee and as the co-director of Stanford Camp Hopper.

Ms. Altman maintained involvement with the Eureka Retired Staff Group as co-chair and chair from 2000 to the present. She is a member of the American Association of University Women (secretary from 2006 to 2010), the California Association for Physical Education, Health, Recreation and Dance in which she held several leadership positions, The Eureka Union School Faculty Organization, California Retired Teachers Association (Membership Chair), United Seniors Organization, AARP and Encore (a Christian couples group) as well. Completing numerous continuing education courses during her tenure, Ms. Altman notably attended numerous physical education workshops at California Polytechnic State University during the summer months between 1989 and 1994.

Recognized as a National Synchronized Swimming Champion in 1954, Ms. Altman earned a Pan American Games Synchronized Swimming Gold Medal in 1955. She was inducted into the Synchronized Swimming Hall of fame in 2018. She has also been featured in several editions of Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women between 1994 and 2008. Obtaining Bachelor's and Master's degree from Stanford University in 1956 and 1957, respectively, Ms. Altman is certified as a teacher in the State of California.
