Ginger Grossetete was inducted into the Albuquerque Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and received a Governor's Award for Outstanding New Mexico Woman
ALBUQUERQUE, NM, November 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Virginia "Ginger" Lee Grossetete with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Grossetete celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Grossetete was employed with the Office of Senior Affairs for the City of Albuquerque, NM, for close to 22 years. Beginning as a senior center supervisor for three years beginning in 1974, she was then promoted to gerontology administrator, where she remained until retirement in 1996.
Originally inspired to work with seniors while still in college, Ms. Grossetete, who was enrolled in the recreation program, had to participate in field work to graduate. Assigned to working with senior citizens by teaching an exercise class at a local retirement house, she quickly fell in love with the population. Because she was already a mother, she knew that she didn't want to work with children, but instead advocate for the needs of the elderly once she graduated.
Actively involved in her community ever since, Ms. Grossetete served as a conference coordinator for the National Consumers Association and as a regional 6 delegate for the National Council on Aging in Washington, DC. She also spent time as a conference chairman for the Western Gerontological Society in Albuquerque and as a New Mexico delegate for the White House Conference on Aging. Upon her retirement, she devoted her free time as an advisory council member for the New Mexico Agency on Aging and as a member of the City of Albuquerque Affordable Housing Committee for several years.
Ms. Grossetete is an elected fellow, former president and former member of the board of directors of the leisure and aging section of the National Recreation and Park Association. She is also the former president of the American Society for Public Administration's New Mexico council and the Southwest Society on Aging. She remains active as a longtime member of the University of New Mexico Alumni Association, the Las Amapolas Garden Club and several sororities. Most notably, however, Ms. Grossetete is the co-founder of the Senior Citizen Aid Foundation, now known as Silver Horizons, alongside partner Margaret Fell. Proud of the non-profit's continued success, the organization serves struggling senior citizens in Santa Fe and Belen, NM, and everywhere in between. Helping seniors feel safe and secure, Silver Horizons assists with such necessities as household bills and repairs, as well as groceries. For more information, visit www.silverhelpingseniors.org.
Enjoying time well spent by volunteering, Ms. Grossetete was very involved as a campaign director for the March of Dimes of New Mexico. She also served as the president of the Albuquerque Symphony Women's Association and was on the board of directors of the New Mexico Senior Olympics. Giving back was something she thoroughly enjoyed.
The recipient of an Outstanding Professional Award from the National Recreation and Park Association in 1982, Ms. Grossetete was later inducted into the Albuquerque Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 1998 and received a Governor's Award for Outstanding New Mexico Woman in 2001. She has been highlighted in close to 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who of American Women honoring her accomplishments. Ms. Grossetete has held a Bachelor of Arts in recreation, cum laude, and a Master of Public Administration from the University of New Mexico since 1974 and 1978, respectively.
Married to the late Alec Paul Grossetete for many years, Ms. Grossetete is the proud mother of two daughters. She continues to reside in the big, beautiful city of Albuquerque.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Virginia "Ginger" Lee Grossetete has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
