Mr. Wood is a retired attorney of 50 years who upheld his own private practice in Southborough, Massachusetts between 1978 and 2018. He specialized in divorce, child custody, court appointed criminal law and child abuse cases. Active as a member of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation and Massachusetts Bar Association during his tenure, he was also treasurer of the Central and Western Massachusetts chapter of the National Association of Counsel for Children. Furthermore, he served on the board of directors of the Bar Advocates of Worcester County. He is a life fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Wood was a staff assistant for the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C. for one year. He then began a career in teaching in 1964. He began teaching and coaching sports at Fay School in Southborough, during which time he also co-chaired the school's minority recruitment program. In 1970, Mr. Wood was hired to teach and coach at Bancroft School in Worcester, Massachusetts, a Pre-K through grade 12 college-preparatory day school. From 1977 to 1978, he chaired Bancroft's history department. Mr. Wood received his first Amateur Radio License in 1954, W1ZYB and has since been active on the amateur frequencies and exchanged many visits with amateurs around the world.
For 21 years, Mr. Wood served on the board of directors of The Bridge of Central Massachusetts, a charitable corporation that provides services for children and families, transition-age youth and adults. The Bridge provides services and supports for individuals with complex behavioral health needs, intellectual and developmental disabilities, brain injury, autism, homelessness, substance use disorders and other complex challenges. He retired from the board in June 2018. Mr. Wood was involved with a number of other organizations as well. He was president of the Marlborough-Westborough Mental Health Association, Inc., member of the Worcester Committee on Foreign Relations, chair of the Town Capital Budget Committee and the Republican Town Committee and member of the Town Finance Committee for Southborough.
Mr. Wood has been included in the 63rd edition of Who's Who in America as well as the seventh, eighth and 10th editions of Who's Who in American Law. He holds an undergraduate degree from Brandeis University in 1961 and JD from Boston College in 1966. Admitted to the Massachusetts Bar Association soon after, he was later admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Between 1962 and 1968, Mr. Wood notably served in the U.S. Army Reserves where he was later honorably discharged in 1968.
