A retired women's health nurse, Ms. Gordon enjoyed a very successful career in her field for nearly 40 years. Beginning her journey as a charge nurse of pediatrics at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA, in 1968, she continued to gain many opportunities in her field. Employed as a staff nurse and charge nurse in various hospitals across the country, including the VA Hospital in the primary care medical intensive care unit in San Antonio, the Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Georgia, and the Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center in the labor and delivery unit at the Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Ms. Gordon also taught as an instructor of clinical nursing in the College of Nursing at Jacksonville State University. Most recently, she served as head nurse of the allergy/immunology service at Brook Army Medical Center between 2005 and 2007.
During the course of her career, Ms. Gordon did consultant work in health education at ETOWAH County Clinics in Gadsden, AL, was a health educator for the Council of Savannah, GA, and spent time with Parent/Child Development Services, also in Savannah. She also served as chairman and instructor for the American National Red Cross's Fort McClellan Chapter.
In 2015, Ms. Gordon served as co-coordinator for National Night Out, was on the artist selection committee for the Joint City Commission, Elderly Affairs, and was the publicity chairman of the Officers Wives Club for a short time. She has also been a board member for Volunteer Home Owners Association since 2007 and is a longtime member of the Army Nurse Corps Association, the Orthopedic Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau.
Earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia in 1976, Ms. Gordon then served as captain in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1979. She later completed a Master of Science in health sciences at Armstrong State College in 1983 and was a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve throughout 1991. She is a registered nurse in Georgia and Texas.
Contributing articles to professional journals during her tenure in nursing, Ms. Gordon was honored twice by being named One of the Outstanding Young Women in America. She has also been included in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry. Celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary to her husband Starling Alexander Gordon next year, Ms. Gordon enjoys bowling, reading, doing ceramics and cross-stitching, and traveling.
