With nearly 60 years of industry experience to her credit, Ms. Miller has worked as a volunteer for Promises2Kids, formerly known as Child Abuse Prevention Foundation or CAPF, since 1998. From 1998 to 2006, she served as a board member for St. Germaine Auxiliary, the fundraising organization for CAPF which is now its own 503 organization called St. Germaine Children's Charities. St. Germaine supports numerous charities, including the Polinsky Children's Center, where she has served on the advisory board since 2008 and a volunteer since 1991.
Previously, she has held the positions of breast cancer support group facilitator for Scripps Health from 2000 to 2002, advisory board member for the Scripps Polster Breast Cancer Center with Scripps Health from 1999 to 2001, cancer support group facilitator for the American Cancer Society, Inc. from 1992 to 1999, and advisory board member for the American Cancer Society, Inc. from 1994 to 1996. Prior to these appointments, she served the San Diego School Districts as a substitute elementary school teacher from 1967 to 1968 and from 1990 to 1991, the Beverly Hills Unified School District as an elementary school teacher for the Horace Mann School from 1966 to 1967, and Roosevelt Elementary School for the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District as teacher for grades K through Three from 1961 to 1966. Ms. Miller began her career as a kindergarten teacher at Hampton Street School for Mineola Public Schools from 1959 to 1961.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Miller pursued an education at the Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1959. She continued her academic efforts with coursework in education from 1959 to 1961 at Queens College of the City University of New York. She concluded her studies at Lewis and Clark College in 1988, graduating with a Master of Arts in counseling psychology. Additionally, Ms. Miller obtained certification in basic counselor personnel services from the state of Oregon in 1988, in teaching for grades K through Six from the California Department of Education in 1966, and grades K-3 from the New York State Department of Education in 1959.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Miller has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She has notably held the role of volunteer for the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego since 2005, the Barnes Tennis Center since 2005, the Reach to Recovery program for the American Cancer Society, Inc. since 1980, the Polinsky Children's Center for the County of San Diego from 1991 to 2008, and the NICU in the Jacobs Medical Center. Also excelling as the coordinator for the Reach to Recovery program for the American Cancer Society, Inc. from 1991 to 1993, she has additionally contributed to the community advisory committee for the Scripps Polster Breast Care Center with Scripps Health from 1998 to 2000 as well as the citizen advisory committee for Lake Oswego, OR, from 1982 to 1986. A tutor for two young children from a family from Kosovo, Ms. Miller has found success with her written works as well, having authored several articles for related magazines and journals as well as volunteer work writing articles for WITF-TV in Hershey, PA, from 1974 to 1980.
In addition to her primary vocation, Ms. Miller remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She had maintained involvement with the League of Women Voters. She was also active as a leader for the Boy Scouts of America from 1977 to 1980. Likewise, Ms. Miller was a member of Psi Chi, The International Honor Society in Psychology.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Miller has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. Honored as Volunteer of the Year by the Health & Human Services Agency for the County of San Diego in 2002, she was previously presented with the Terese Lasser Award from the American Cancer Society, Inc. in 1993. Ms. Miller was selected for inclusion in the 62nd edition of Who's Who in America and the 26th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
