As a child, Mr. Macfarlane Proctor was influenced by his maternal grandfather, a talented artist in his own right. Today, he utilizes more than 55 years of practiced industry experience in his roles as senior docent and gallery specialist with the Palm Springs Art Museum, as well as an associate professor emeritus with the University of Washington. At the start of his career, he worked as an art teacher for Michigan Public Schools before he began teaching on the collegiate level with Michigan State University and the University of Washington. Additionally, Mr. Macfarlane Proctor was the co-owner, gallery director and design consultant for Childers/Proctor Gallery from 1983 until 1999.
Currently, Mr. Macfarlane Proctor executes his artistic visions through water-soluble oil paint brushed and block printed on canvas. Throughout his career, he has exhibited his work in group shows through the Seattle Art Museum, the Detroit Art Institute, the Northwest Craft Center and Gallery, Cornell University, the Washington State Capitol Museum, the Greenville County Art Museum in South Carolina and many more. Mr. Macfarlane Proctor is also honored to have his work represented in collections at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Rainier Bank and Safeco Insurance Headquarters.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Mr. Macfarlane Proctor authored a number of creative works, including "Principles of Pattern for Craftsmen and Designers" and "Surface Design for Fabric." One of the highlights of his artistic career was designing the waterfront banners for the City of Seattle. An expert in his field, Mr. Macfarlane Proctor holds a Bachelor of Science in art education and a Master of Arts in painting from Michigan State University.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Macfarlane Proctor affiliated himself with the American Association of University Professors, the Northwest Orchid Society and the Surface Design Association. For his excellence in the field, he has been recognized by such publications as Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the West. In the near future, Mr. Macfarlane Proctor intends to continue honing his artistic prowess through his studio work.
