Dr. Olivier is a research scientist who has been consulting for Micromeritics Instrument Corporation, Inc., in Georgia for the past 15 years. A company that manufactures a broad line of automated analytical laboratory instruments that measure the physical characteristics of powders and solids, he was originally hired in 1978 as a director of research particle technology. He then served as vice president of technology and senior research scientist. Dr. Olivier also chaired and served as president of Nanotech Consulting, Inc., between 2003 and 2013 and chaired Universal Microsystems, Inc., between 1987 and 1990. He has been in the industry since 1960.
During his career, Dr. Olivier has successfully developed the general theory of adsorption on heterogeneous surfaces and has conducted research in adsorption-based characterization of fine particles and porous materials. He is the inventor of an automated particle size analyzer and holds 20 patents in the fields of minerals beneficiation and particle instrumentation. Dr. Olivier is also a longtime member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world's largest non-profit general scientific society.
Developing an interest in the sciences in grade school, Dr. Olivier later earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from the University of New Hampshire and Doctor of Philosophy in colloid science at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has notably been cited in the 65th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America for his work.
Born in Lebanon, NH, Dr. Olivier later married his wife, Christiana Sanford, in 1959. They have three children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In his free time, Dr. Olivier enjoys genealogy and woodworking.
