A research scientist and educator, Dr. Mihal is a lecturer in history at Troy University's Brunswick site, teaching on this campus since 2010. She formerly taught computer technology at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland while serving as the Chair of the Computer Technologies Division. She taught and served as Department Chair of the Computer Information Systems at Henderson Community College in Kentucky. Dr. Mihal earned tenure and the title of Associate Professor at Kentucky University. She was an adjunct professor of history and political science at Edison Community College in Florida. She also held additional roles as instructor and/or advisor at the University of Southern Indiana, Purdue University, and New Mexico State University. Dr. Mihal was a high school teacher at Ridgely-Dulaney Junior High School in Towson, MD., beginning in 1964. Outside of academia, Dr. Mihal spent over thirteen years as the Deputy Program Manager of Distributed Learnings at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center with the Homeland Security Department in Glynco, GA. She began her federal service in 1991, in Washington, D.C. serving as a Senior Systems Analyst for the Immigration and Naturalization Service for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
The author of the book, "Learning by Doing BASIC" in 1983 and "Computers Learning by Doing " in 1984, Dr. Mihal has also been active on multiple committees throughout her career. She served on the board of directors of the Indiana Political Science Association and the International Studies Association, president of the Kentucky Academy of Computing Users' Group, and given speeches on many occasions in her fields of expertise. Involved locally, Dr. Mihal served on the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Peace River Power Squadron, the nominating board of the Kentucky Higher Education Association, as chair of the Newburgh Youth Organization, and as block coordinator for several neighborhood associations, and served on computer advisory boards within the Henderson County School District.
Dr. Mihal is a member of the Society of Applied Learning Technology, the Association of Computing Machinery, where she served as Vice-President of the Evansville Chapter in 1985, the American Legion and the Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Mount Saint Agnes College, a Master of Arts from in history from New Mexico State University, a Master of Arts in political science from Purdue University, and a Doctor of Education from Vanderbilt University. She also completed in 2009, a postdoctoral certificate in information assurance (computer security) at the University of Maryland University College, and is a certified instructor for information assurance through the University of Maryland.
Honored by the DOJ when they asked for Dr. Mihai's dissertation, the Department wanted to establish a new process for law enforcement accreditation. Borrowing her dissertation and making 250 copies of it quickly became the primer for the development of the federal law enforcement accreditation certification. A copy of it hangs in the halls of Congress. It is one of Dr. Mikal's greatest accomplishments.
Married to Ladislaw Paul Mihal since 1991, Dr. Mihal is the proud mother of four children and grandmother of 15 grandchildren. She enjoys sailing, singing, swimming, cooking, listening to music, and porcelain painting. She has been showcased in close to 50 editions of Who's Who including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
