A highly esteemed educator and office administrator with nearly 50 years of professional experience, Mrs. Walz is currently retired, having most recently served as a business and work experience teacher at United States Department of Defense Dependents Hanau High School in Germany, a position she held from 1994 to 2001. Prior to this appointment, Mrs. Walz worked at several other Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Germany and Japan, beginning in 1966.
Mrs. Walz began her career in 1955 as secretary, music coordinator, and assistant for the Mutual Improvement Association Music Committee productions and programs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has also worked as secretary for Kelly Girl Agency, now known as Kelly Services, the Utah State Department of Public Instruction, the American Embassy in Germany, the Brigham Young University Music Department, and the Utah Educational Research Center. However, a majority of Mrs. Walz's career has been spent as a teacher. Aside from her work overseas, Mrs. Walz has been a teacher at schools in Salt Lake City, including Granite High School.
An avid classical and opera singer, Mrs. Walz has performed solos in various musical productions. She has also been a member of several choirs, including the Utah Symphony, Bitburg/Spangdahlem Air Bases and Church Choirs, and Rheinland-Pfalz International Choir, among others. In addition to singing, Mrs. Walz served as pianist, organist and conductor for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Walz was a member of the Utah Education Association, Department of Defense Dependents Schools Overseas Education Association, Department of Defense Dependents Schools Overseas Business Educators Association, and Mu Phi Epsilon. She was named Outstanding Future Business Leaders of America Advisor by the Future Business Leaders of America in 1990. She also won Outstanding Teacher Awards from the Hanau School District in 1995, Baumholder School District in 1991, and Bitburg School District in 1971. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Mrs. Walz was selected for inclusion in the 24th edition of Who's Who in the World and the eighth edition of Who's Who in American Education, as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.
