Barbara A. Pierce Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Pierce has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of elementary education

Ms. Pierce taught elementary education for the Mount Vernon City School District in New York for 35 years.

WHITE PLAINS, NY, December 03, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Barbara A. Pierce with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Pierce celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Pierce taught elementary education for the Mount Vernon City School District in New York for 35 years. Hired in 1968 just after earning her bachelor's degree, she later retired in 2003. She has been substitute teaching part-time for the district ever since.

Retired from her full-time career in education for 15 years, Ms. Pierce has since begun writing children's books as a hobby. She has published 14 books thus far, including three books in 2018: "Remembering Our Black Trailblazers and Their Legacies I and II," "The Perfect Place for Toodles" and "The Game That Sam Plays." Other books include "Whichever Way the Wind Blows" in 2006, "A Challenge of Common Knowledge" in 2009, and "A Mystery in Winters Park" in 2013.

Hoping to continue writing books, as well as practicing her faith through the Church of Christ, Ms. Pierce feels that the most important part of her career was her acknowledgement of God. This began early on when her mother would bring her children to church to worship. The second most important part of her career was becoming a teacher. Helping students, especially underprivileged children, was inspirational and she hopes that she was a type of light for them in some of their darkest hours.

Honored with a Jenkins Award by the Parent Teacher Association of Mount Vernon, Ms. Pierce has also been cited in approximately a dozen editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the World. Ms. Pierce holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in education and reading from the College of New Rochelle.

Born in Memphis, TN, to parents Charlie Lewis Pierce and Rita Mae Brown, Ms. Pierce was one of five siblings. As the daughter of a single parent later on, her mother moved often in an effort to provide a better life for her children. Eventually making their way to Westchester County, NY, Ms. Pierce went through an adjustment period because the other children would tease her for her southern accent. Focusing on her studies, she finally had the opportunity to read her very first novel when she got to junior high school. Knowing that she wanted to teach and write after she graduated, Ms. Pierce had to work for nearly three years to save up enough money to attend college. However, she cites it as the best thing she ever did. Now well into retirement, she continues to enjoy the simple things in life when she isn't busy working on her books, such as practicing her faith, writing poetry and doing beading work.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Barbara A. Pierce has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
