Prior to obtaining his current roles, he was an associate professor with the school from 1982 to 1986, having been an assistant professor of surgery from 1979 to 1982. He previously served as an instructor with the University of Alabama Medical Center in 1979, where he was a resident in cardiovascular surgery from 1977 to 1978.
Dr. Conti began his career as a student at the College of the Holy Cross, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. He continued his studies with Tufts University, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1969. He subsequently joined the University of California, Los Angeles, serving in a surgical internship from 1969 to 1970 and a surgery residency from 1970 to 1974. Dr. Conti is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Conti has been an active leader in his community. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Heart Association. A former member of the cardiovascular surgery committee of the American College of Cardiology, he has been affiliated with the Society of University Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, and the Longmire Surgical Society. Dr. Conti is a member of the Kirklin Surgical Society, the Galveston County Medical Society, Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Delta Epsilon.
Throughout his career, Dr. Conti has been recognized for his contributions. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest. In addition, he was named a Mosley Scholar in 1968.
