A retired architect of more than 35 years, Mr. Garrison last served as a consultant with Caudill Rowlett Scott Sirrine, an architectural firm based in Houston. A longtime architect for the firm beginning in 1963, he served as the senior vice president and director of operations for the firm's international group between 1976 and 1997. Prior to moving to CRS, Mr. Garrison spent 19 months with Welton, Becket & Associates in Houston.
Established in 1946, CRS began as a six-partner firm, which later opened regional offices and eventually employed some 250 professionals. Becoming a public corporation, CRS Design Associates, Inc., in 1970, it then added engineering and construction divisions. In 1983, J.E. Sirrine, an industrial engineering firm, merged with the company and the company's name was changed to CRSS, popularly known as CRS-Sirrine, before divesting itself in 1994.
Mr. Garrison's involvement with CRS also included serving as the general manager of the firm's architectural services division, CRSS Architects, Inc., before serving as executive vice president and president. He served as the executive vice president of CRSS Inc. International Division for several years as well. He was program director on three of CRS's largest projects from 1976 to 1996. The King Abdul Aziz Military Academy was a $2 billion project on a 123 square mile site near Riyad, Saudi Arabia, encompassing a town of 13,500 to support the Academy of 1,500 cadets. The Peace Sun II/Peace Hawk IV project was a $185 million project to support the bed down of the 64 F-15 Fighter aircraft sold to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Peace Shield project was a $1.5 billion program of hardened underground control centers connected to long range radio and radar sites around the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
An elected fellow of the American Institute of Architects, he is also a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and the Texas Society of Architects. He was registered to practice architecture in 42 states. Furthermore, Mr. Garrison was a member, board of directors from 1998 to 2000 and past president of the DeCordova Bend Estates Country Club in 1999.
Serving on the board of directors for the Global Group and as a member of the Houston Architecture Foundation for several years, Mr. Garrison was actively involved in many local committees as well. He was chairman of the board of directors of North Central Texas Academy (NCTA) at Happy Hill Farm. He was a member of the De Cordova City Council in 2000. Mr. Garrison continues to serve as a board member for North Central Academy since 1999 and was the board president of Epernay Homeowners Association in 1978.
Obtaining a Bachelor of Architecture at Texas Tech University in 1962, Mr. Garrison later completed postgraduate work at the Graduate School of Design executive program at Harvard University in 1971. He notably served in the U.S. Army between 1958 and 1959, and was active in the Army Reserves between 1959 and 1964. He was named Officer of the Year by CRS in 1980. Mr. Garrison has been highlighted in approximately 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in in Finance and Industry and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
