Robert Sage was the recipient of the Hotelman of the Year Award from the New England Inns & Resorts Association in 1965 and the Hotel Hall of Fame Award from Hospitality magazine in 1970.

Mr. Sage began his career as the manager of Phillips Drug Company in Boston, MA, from 1949 to 1950. Following this appointment, he worked as treasurer of Coronet Sales Company in Boston from 1950 to 1958. From 1968 to 1971, he served as chair of the Colby College Alumni Fund. Mr. Sage was active as the chair of the development committee at Colby College in Waterville, ME, from 1975 to 1981 and held a position on the board of directors and the executive committee for the Harvard Community Health Plan from 1979 to 1982.
Mr. Sage opened his first hotel, The Fenway Motor Hotel in Boston, in 1959 and subsequently owned and operated 20 hotels in the U.S. and Canada until 2014. During this time, he was a trustee of Colby College from 1974 to 1993 and vice president of the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center from 1978 to 1993. From 1978 to 2008, he was vice chairman of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, as well as trustee of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 1980 to 2005. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Arena Committee from 1981 to 1983 and a trustee of Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, from 1998 to 2016. Mr. Sage has been a trustee emeritus of Colby College since 1993 and a lifetime trustee of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center since 2005.
Prior to embarking on his career, Mr. Sage received a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College in 1949. Following this achievement, he earned a Master of Arts from Colby College in 1974. In addition to his career, Mr. Sage served with the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 and founded the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau in 1974.
Mr. Sage is a member of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, where he served as director from 1971 to 1977, and the Greater Boston Hotel and Motel Inn Association, where he was president from 1971 to 1972. He was a member of the New England Inns & Resorts Association from 1976 to 1978 and past president of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International in 1965. Mr. Sage also belongs to the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Massachusetts Lodging Association, the Wightman Tennis Center, the Colby College Alumni Association, the Mason Club, Tau Delta Phi Fraternity and the Belmont Country Club.
Mr. Sage was the recipient of the Hotelman of the Year Award from the New England Inns & Resorts Association in 1965, the Hotel Hall of Fame Award from Hospitality magazine in 1970, and was named Man of the Year by the Greater Boston Association of Retarded Citizens in Boston on Nov 14, 1981. He received the Alumni Award from Colby College in 1974. Notably, he was named to the Massachusetts Hotel Hall of Fame in 2010. Mr. Sage has previously been selected for inclusion in the 24th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry and the eighth edition of Who's Who in the World.
