A retired elementary and vocal/music school educator, Mr. Older taught in Berkeley Heights, NJ, his entire teaching career. Teaching at the Woodruff and T.P. Hughes Schools for many years beginning in 1988, he also taught in the same capacity at Woodruff and Mountain Park Elementary Schools between 1981 and 1988 and taught eighth grade vocal and general music at Columbia Junior High School between 1971 and 1981. During his tenure in education, Mr. Older also lent his expertise as both a boys' baseball and girls' basketball coach at the junior high school level.
A longtime member of the New Jersey Education Association, Mr. Older formerly served as a local representative between 1986 and 1987.
Mr. Older received a 20 Years of Service Award from the Parent Teacher Association at the Woodruff School in 1990. He was also honored to have his Woodroof School choir students sing and perform with the African children's choir in New York City in March 2002. He has notably been cited in approximately 10 editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education in honor of his successes.
First introduced to music while attending the Suffield Academy, a private, co-ed, secondary preparatory school located in Suffield, CT, Mr. Older was involved with the Glee Club and a summer music school program while on campus. Falling in love with music, he was later accepted to Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, where he earned the opportunity to sing under some of the greatest conductors in the world. In 1971, Mr. Older earned a Bachelor of Arts in music education and soon after became a certified teacher of music in the state of New Jersey.
In retirement, Mr. Older volunteers directing the Absecon Presbyterian Church Choir. He enjoys staying active by playing golf and bowling and is a current member of the Mays Landing Golf Club. Married to his wife Helen Mary Diorio since 1986, Mr. Older is the proud father of one daughter, Michelle Ann.
