She had previously served as president of Genesys Home Health and Hospice Inc. in Flint, Michigan, from 1990 to 2000 and as vice president of finance for the La Crosse Visiting Nurse Association in Wisconsin from 1985 to 1990. Earlier in her career, Ms. Kangas was the manager of financial operations for Neighborhood House Visiting Nurse and Nursery School in Millburn, New Jersey, from 1983 to 1985 and director of hospital education at the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis Health System Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, from 1980 to 1983.
Ms. Kangas began her career as a student at University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan, completing coursework from 1951 to 1953. Later in her career, she returned to her studies at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1979. She concluded her education at the University of Wisconsin System, earning a Master of Education in professional development healthcare administration in 1987. Ms. Kangas is additionally certified as a home health and hospice care executive.
A respected voice in her field, Ms. Kangas has been affiliated with a number of organizations in her community. She is a member of the National Association of Home Care & Hospice, the Michigan Home Health Association, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Incarnation Conference. Ms. Kangas is also the president of the Senior Leisure Club and was chair of the scholarship committee of the Avant Professional Woman's Association.
Throughout her career, Ms. Kangas has been recognized for her achievements. The recipient of the Corporate Women of Achievement Award from the YWCA of Greater Flint in Michigan, she also received the Irene Waldman Leadership award from Sisters of St. Joseph Health Systems. Ms. Kangas has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in American Women.
