He later pursued postgraduate coursework at California State University Fullerton and the University of California, Los Angeles. Interested in language, he excelled as a teacher and department chair at Mayfair High School from 1985 to 2007, consistently encouraging an atmosphere of mutual respect in the academic setting. Furthermore, Mr. Baptista coached soccer, cross-country, track and field at Mayfair High School, exhibiting a versatile skill set.
Initially interested in teaching history, Mr. Baptista became interested in poetry while completed graduate coursework at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Ultimately deciding to pursue teaching Portuguese and Spanish, his book of poetry, entitled "Raizes," was published in 2010, and he has also contributed a considerable amount of poetry to literary magazines. Along with his work in the field of creative writing, Mr. Baptista has found success in the communications industry as a reporter and presenter for TV Artesia.
Mr. Baptista has worked as a correspondent for SPT-TV in New Jersey from 2005 to 2010. He has also served as a correspondent for Luso-Americano, and was appointed to the board of directors for the Portuguese National Network in Los Angeles from 1993 to 2004. Interested in maintaining connections with his field, Mr. Baptista is a member of the National Education Association as well as the California Teachers Association. He has also been a reporter for Radio Televisão Artesia Broadcasting in Los Angeles from 2003 to the present.
