Prior to obtaining these positions, Dr. Cretin worked as the president of Shan Cretin and Associates from 1990 to 1998.
In addition to her recent roles, Dr. Cretin has held a number of academic posts, including as an assistant professor, associate professor, and professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, from 1976 to 1990, and an assistant professor at Harvard University from 1974 to 1976. She began her career as a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1968. She continued her studies with Yale University, earning a Master of Public Health in 1970. She then returned to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in operations research in 1975. Dr. Cretin was a research associate at Yale University from 1970 to 1971.
A leading voice in the field, Dr. Cretin has authored a number of books as well as articles for professional journals. Dr. Cretin served as a consultant for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the RAND Corporation, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, and the World Bank.
Throughout her career, Dr. Cretin has been recognized for her contributions. She participated three times as a panelist at the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. Furthermore, Dr. Cretin has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's who of Emerging Leaders in America.
