Daniel Benjamin Ritter Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Ritter has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the law industry

SEATTLE, WA, December 19, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Daniel Benjamin Ritter with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Ritter celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

In 2009, Mr. Ritter retired from the law firm now named Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, where he had been working since his graduation from law school in 1963, serving as an associate until 1969, then as a partner until 2006, and finally as senior counsel. He served as chairman of the banking department and of the international department, each for several years. In 1963 he was admitted to practice in Washington State, in the Federal District Court for the Western District of Washington, and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Subsequently he was admitted to practice in the United States Tax Court (1965) and the United States Supreme Court (2006). An early highlight of his career was within one month of admission to the bar to argue a case in the Washington Supreme Court and prevail. As was then customary in Seattle, he initially had a general practice, but gradually his work became largely concentrated on banking and corporate law and on international transactions and commercial finance. Chiefly on behalf of Seattle First National Bank (later acquired by Bank of America), he served as lead counsel on syndicated loans and leveraged leases to finance such projects as industrial facilities, wide-bodied aircraft, ocean-going vessels, and downtown office buildings and to advise on the establishment and operation of foreign branches and joint ventures. In his early years of practice he tried many small cases and over the course of his career he argued well over a dozen cases in the Washington Court of Appeals, the Washington Supreme Court, and the Federal Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, prevailing in all but two of these cases. He served as counsel to the Washington Bankers Association from 1996 to 2008 and was a lecturer for Bar Review Associates of Washington from 1964 until 1996.

At age 16, Mr. Ritter enrolled at the University of Chicago, from which he received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1957. Then, following basic training in the U.S. Army Reserves and two years teaching high school English, he entered the University of Washington Law School, from which he received a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1963 and was awarded membership in The Order of the Coif. After his first year in law school he was elected to the Washington Law Review and during his third year he served as its casenote editor. He also was co-author with one of his professors of an article published in the review. In 1977 he was a contributing author to the Washington Community Property Deskbook and in 1982 to the Washington Commercial Law Deskbook. In 2003 he was editor-in-chief and contributing author to the Washington Revised Article 9 Deskbook. In addition to these writings, Mr. Ritter was involved throughout his career in law-related activities. He served from 1978 to 1987 as member of the statute law committee of the State of Washington, from 1979 to 1981 as chairman of the international law committee of the Washington State Bar Association ("WBA"), from 1980 to 1982 as chairman of the international and comparative law section of the Seattle-King County Bar Association, in 1979 and 1980 as chairman of the business law section of the WBA and from 1980 until his retirement as member of its uniform commercial code committee and chairman of that committee from 1980 to 1986, from 1984 to 1988 as member of the University of Washington Law School visiting committee, from 1989 to 1992 as a trustee of the University of Washington Law School Foundation, and from 1991 to 1993 as member of the WBA judicial recommendations committee.

Mr. Ritter's civic involvement over the years has also been extensive. From boyhood and continuing into his early years of law practice, he was active in Boy Scouts, serving as troop leader and, after becoming an Eagle Scout, working every summer at a scout camp until his final year of law school, and after graduation serving as a scoutmaster for several years. After that, he served as trustee of Cathedral Associates in Seattle from 1980 to 1986, as a longtime board member of the University of Chicago Club of Puget Sound and its president from 1984 to1986, as member of the national alumni relations board of the University of Chicago from 1986 to 1998, as legal counsel to the Washington State Republican Party from 1983 to 1992 and from time to time during that period as counsel to the Republican Party of King County, WA, as board member of the American Lung Association of Washington from 1983 to 1992, as board member of Seattle Camerata from 1991 to 1993, and of the Early Music Guild of Seattle from 1993 to 1996. He has been a member of the Rainier Club since 1984.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Daniel Benjamin Ritter has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
