Following this appointment, he worked in numerous industries as a news announcer and senior research associate. In the years since, he garnered his expertise in education and health planning through such institutions as Howard University, the University of Southern California and the Memphis Health Center, later utilizing that experience as a consultant for Charles Mathis Associates. Before his retirement in 2005, Dr. Thompson served as the chief executive officer for the Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center.
Dr. Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science from Tuskegee University. He continued his studies with a Master of Public Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Michigan. Dr. Thompson concluded his academic efforts at Harvard University completing the 1977 Summer Program for Health Systems Management."

During his spare time, he supports philanthropic and charitable endeavors through the Community Health Care Association of New York State and the Community Associates Development Corporation. Furthermore, Dr. Thompson was affiliated as an emeritus member of the American Public Health Association.
Due to his outstanding work, Dr. Thompson has been presented with a Distinguished Service Award through the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc. He has also been selected for inclusion in publications such as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Looking toward the future, Dr. Thompson intends to continue giving back to others while enjoying his retirement.
