With a career spanning 35 years, Ms. Cox is now retired, having most recently served as computer specialist with the Defense Information Systems Agency at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida from 1995 to 2001. Immediately prior to this posting, she worked as a computer specialist and IDEF repository coordinator at Functional Process Improvement Expertise Center and the Defense Information Systems Agency in Arlington, VA. Ms. Cox began her career as a mathematician and computer specialist in 1966 with the United States Naval Oceanographic Office in Washington, DC, followed by similar posts with such companies as Sperry Microwave Electronics Company; the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Savannah, GA, San Francisco, CA, and Frankfurt, Germany; and the United States Army Construction Research Laboratory in Champaign, IL.
Prior to embarking on her career, Ms. Cox earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia, Athens, in 1965. Following this accomplishment, she completed postgraduate coursework at the American University in Washington, DC, in 1972. Ms. Cox is additionally certified as a system professional and in data processing.
In addition to her primary career responsibilities, Ms. Cox held the position of instructor of computer sciences with the City Colleges of Chicago in Frankfurt, Germany, from 1982 to 1983. She also authored the "Harris Computer Users Manual" in 1983. Though retired, Ms. Cox remains affiliated with many professional organizations in her field, including the Association of Information Technology Professionals, the University of Georgia Alumni Association and Sigma Kappa.
Ms. Cox has been the recipient of a number of awards in her field. In 1983, she was presented with the Sustained Superior Performance Award from the United States Army. She was also awarded Vice President Al Gore's Hammer Award in 1996 and the Project of the Year Award by the Defense Information Systems Agency in 1999. In light of all of her accomplishments, Ms. Cox has been selected for inclusion in the first edition of Who's Who in Media and Communication, as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
