He is now celebrated for a career that spans four decades and encompasses work on renowned projects in the film industry, including such films as "Farewell to Manzanar" and "Half Past Autumn," which both received Emmy nominations. Also dedicated to educating others in his field, Mr. Narita served as a lecturer at San Jose State University in 2006 and 2007 and taught Cinematography and Personal Cinema at San Francisco Art Institute from 2008 to 2015. He was also featured at the Mill Valley International Film Festival 1983 and at the Hawaii International Film Festival in 1984.
Mr. Narita's interest in cinematography was influenced by formative professional connections with filmmakers. Celebrated for a colorful career full of accomplishments, he has worked as photography director on several films, notably visually and technologically complex projects like "The Rocketeer." His other projects include "Never Cry Wolf," which was given a Best Cinematography Award by the National Society of Film Critics in 1983, "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," "Star Trek VI," "Hocus Pocus" and "James and the Giant Peach." In recognition of his unmatched skill set, Mr. Narita also earned the Best Cinematography Award for "The Valley of the Heart's Delight" at the Boston International Film Festival in 2006. As a juror he participated in the Golden Eye International Cameraman's Film Festival (The Republic of Georgia) and Eurasia IFF (Kazakhstan).
Due to his ongoing interest in professional developments, Mr. Narita is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Society of Cinematographers and the International Photographers Guild. In addition to his primary professional endeavors, he served the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. Mr. Narita has been mentioned in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Entertainment and Who's Who in the West, along with the second edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
