Dr. Paul Lewis Joskow is a renowned educator, scholar and philanthropy executive who has amassed more than four decades of professional experience in his respective fields.

Dr. Joskow is a renowned educator, scholar and philanthropy executive who has amassed more than four decades of professional experience in his respective fields. Most recently serving as the president of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting research and education with respect to science, technology and economics, from 2008 to 2017, he spent most of his career as an economics professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1978 to 2010, at which point he reached emeritus status. During this time, he served MIT as the director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, the Elizabeth and James Killian Chair, head of the department of economics, and Mitsui Professor. Prior to these positions, he held the roles of assistant and associate professor at MIT beginning in 1972. He returned to MIT in 2016 after retiring as president of the Sloan Foundation.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Joskow served on a number of corporate and non-profit boards and advisory committees. He was a director of New England Electric System (1987-2000); State Farm Indemnity Company (1991-2002), national Grid PLC (2000-2007) and Transcanada Corporation (2004-2013 and currently serves as a trustee of the Putnam Mutual Funds (1997- ) and on the board of directors of Exelon Corporation (2007- ). On the non-profit side he serves as a trustee of Yale University (2008 - ), after serving as president of the Yale University Council (1993-2006), on the board of directors of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research (1993-2005; 2018- ), and on the board of overseers (now board advisors) of the Boston Symphony orchestra (2005- ). He has also served as an advisor or consultant for the American Enterprise Institute, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the World Bank, the Electric Power Research Institute, Committee for Economic Development, AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Institute of Policy Integrity (NYU), the Toulouse School of Economics, and other organizations. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Dr. Joskow is also a prolific author of scholarly works. He has published 150 articles and six books in his fields of interest. He has also received numerous awards for his scholarly research. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association, the Outstanding Contributions to the Profession Award from the International Society for Energy Economics, the Adelman-Frankel Award from the United States Association for Energy Economics, the Distinguished Fellow Award from the Industrial Organization Society, and an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Paris-Dauphine. He received the Founders Award from the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering and served as president and vice president of the International Society for New Institutional Economics.

Married to Barbara Zita Chasen with one child, Suzann Zoe Joskow, Dr. Joskow has been highlighted in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Cornell University, and a Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Yale University.
