Mr. Milling fully retired in 2007 as the president and board of directors of the Whitney National Bank in New Orleans, after 23 years of service. Prior to working in banking, he was a successful attorney of 19 years. Hired in 1965 as an associate at Milling, Saal, Saunders, Benson & Woodward LLP, now known as Milling Benson Woodward LLP, an established transaction and litigation law firm that serves clients throughout Louisiana, he later served as partner at the firm between 1969 and 1984.
Utilizing his expertise in both law and banking, Mr. Milling has been very active in his community over the years. He served on the board of the directors for Hancock Holding Corporation for nearly 40 years between 1978 and 2015 and served on the board of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and the Louisiana Civil Service League. He also served on the board of trustees for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, as trustee for Dillard University, and as chairman of the Upper Pontalba Building Commission, the Governor's Advisory Commission on Coastal Restoration and Conservation and the Americas Wetlands Foundation. Furthermore, Mr. Milling is a past president of the Downtown Development District and the Bureau Governmental Research of New Orleans and former member of the Louisiana Civil Service League and the Metropolitan Area Committee, among other roles. During his career in law, Mr. Milling was active as a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Mr. Milling has been included in over 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest. He has held a Bachelor of Arts from Washington and Lee University since 1962 and a Bachelor of Laws from Tulane University since 1965. He has been admitted to the Louisiana Bar Association, the Eastern District of the U.S. District Court of Louisiana, the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
