During this time, he gained further expertise through medical and educational roles with the Stony Brook University in New York, St. John's University in Queens, New York; the American Pharmacists Association, St. Francis Hospital, the United States Food and Drug Administration and Long Island University in Brookville, New York. Additionally, Dr. Blum currently serves as a member of the physician advisory group for Premier Inc. and the medical director of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Suffolk County Inc.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Blum pursued an education at Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia, earning his Bachelor of Arts in 1959. Following this accomplishment, he obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the Chicago Medical School at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois, in 1963. Continuing his education with an internship and residency at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, Dr. Blum concluded his education with postdoctoral training in pharmacology at St. John's University from 1972 to 1977.
A former captain in the United States Air Force, Dr. Blum maintains affiliation with a number of professional organizations in order to keep abreast of developments in his field. A fellow of the American College of Physicians, he also holds fellowship with the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, the American College of Medical Quality and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Utilizing his knowledge of the field, he authored "Permaslim" in 1981 and was awarded two patents in 1987. For his excellence in the field, Dr. Blum has been recognized many times, earning a feature in the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the East and the first edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
