Dr. Nason began his career as a teacher at San Diego High School in California from 1974 to 1976. Following studies at Princeton Theological Seminary, he served as a pastor for the Plumsted Presbyterian Church in New Egypt, NJ, from 1979 to 1982. From 1980 to 1982 he also served as visiting lecturer of speech and preaching at the Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey. He held the position of instructor of preaching at the Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, from 1984 to 1989 and adjunct assistant professor of preaching from 1989 to 2004. From 1999 to 2000, he was active as interim pastor with City Temple in London, England, and has served other churches as a transitional minister. He continued his career at the Fuller Theological Seminary as assistant professor of communication from 2005 to 2017 and director of the chapel from 2007 to 2010. Dr. Nason has been a pastor at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church in Chatsworth, CA, since 2017.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Nason received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from San Diego State University in California in 1974. Following this achievement, he earned a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1979. Dr. Nason continued his education with a Doctor of Ministry from the Fuller Theological Seminary in 1992 and did additional graduate study at the University of Southern California and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
In addition to his ministry as a professor and pastor, Dr. Nason has composed sacred songs, including the choral anthem "Lord, Let Me Listen" in 1971. He has been ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA since 1979. He had not expected to enter into academia the way that he did, but is grateful that God opened doors for him to serve simultaneously in the church world and in the academic world. Dr. Nason has previously been included in the 65th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America.
