Ms. Travis initially studied sociology at Immaculata College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1965 and going on to do graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University in Philadelphia. While working from 1965 to 1968 as a staff technician and management trainee at Bell Telephone Co., now part of AT&T Inc., she gained an appreciation for the importance of communication that informed her progression into broadcast journalism.
In 1969 while serving as training director for Temple University's Comprehensive Group Health Services Centers, she was recommended to Metromedia Inc. WTTG television station in Washington, D.C., to co-host the live two-hour daily news and interview show "Panorama." Ms. Travis auditioned and was accepted for the position, where she stayed from 1970 to 1973, during which time "Panorama" was awarded a regional Emmy®, and she had the opportunity for an audience with President Richard Nixon in 1972.

Celebrated for her versatile career, Ms. Travis has been a research journalist since 1988. She served as a communications consultant at her own company, Alice Travis Inc., from 1976 to 1988, where J. Ray McDermott of McDermott International based in New Orleans was a client. Ms. Travis was also a communications consultant for Bell Laboratories, now Nokia Bell Labs, in 1977 and did communications consulting at the Hooker Chemical Co., now Occidental Chemical Corp., among others.
Unmatched in her multifaceted skill set, Ms. Travis is the author of "Cognitive Evolution: The Biological Imprint of Applied Intelligence," which was published in 2007. Ms. Travis also has contributed several articles to professional journals, and was the moderator of 26 programs in the 'You' series by the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare; 200 television stations (commercial and educational) carried the series. She also worked as a host on such programs as the nationally syndicated television talk show "For You Black Woman," where she notably interviewed heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali at his home in Chicago, and "AM New York" on WABC-TV. Ms. Travis has contributed her skills in numerous other positions within the communications sector as well.
Passionate about her industry, Ms. Travis applies her interest in gaining multiple perspectives to her professional undertakings. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Annie E. Gorman Award in sociology from Immaculata College, the Communications Award from the Foreign Service Institute of the United States Department of State and media awards from the Federal Editors Association, along with several awards celebrating women in media roles. Due to her accomplishments within her field, Ms. Travis has been honored in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women and the 31st edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
