In 1977, Mr. Stewart earned an Associate's degree from Triton College. Later in 1980 he concluded his education with a Bachelor of Science with a major in Finance from Eastern Illinois University.
Mr. Stewart's career in finance spans over 30 years. During this time, he has: 1) Invested millions and managed billions of public/private dollars; 2) Become an expert in state and local government, treasury, and internal auditing. He is a Certified Government Financial Manager and Certified Illinois Municipal Treasurer. As a government official Mr. Stewart has served under 2 Illinois governors, 2 city mayors, and a former Illinois Senate president.
Mr. Stewart has served on numerous Boards of Directors. Four of these Boards he served as Treasurer. Most recently in 2008 Mr. Stewart was appointed Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Financial Executives Internationals (FEI) Chicago Chapter, the preeminent association for financial executives. From 2008 to 2010 the Chicago chapter placed First Place twice as "CHAPTER OF THE YEAR" by the National Financial Executives International Association.
Presently Mr. Stewart is retired and CEO of The Stewart Group. The Stewart Group advises companies, governments, non-profits, conglomerates, and investors on fiscal matters. In addition to his professional endeavors Mr. Stewart has dedicated his efforts to community service, mentorship programs and a Deacon of his local Baptist church.
Among his many achievements he became the:
1) First African American Treasurer of Maywood, IL.
2) First African American Director of Appropriations for a former Illinois Senate president.
3) First African American Chief Financial Officer of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Over the 30 years Mr. Stewart has accumulated numerous awards including: 1) Outstanding Young Man of America, 2) Who's Who in Finance, 3) Who's Who in the World, 4) Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, and 5) Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Mu Mu Lambda Chapter Alumni Man of the Year (Chapter and State).
