With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Lindgren has been a professor of art history at Hofstra University since 1984. Prior to obtaining her current role, she was on the art history faculty of Stony Brook University from 1969 to 1983 and a lecturer in art history at Dowling College in 1970. Earlier in her career, she was a designer in the fashion industry from 1957 to 1965. In addition to her primary positions, Dr. Lindgren was a consultant editor for Noyes Press from 1982 to 1988.
Dr. Lindgren began her career as a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, receiving an Associate of Applied Sciences in 1957. She later joined Stony Brook University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in art history, magna cum laude, in 1968. She subsequently continued her studies with Columbia University, where she earned a Master of Arts in 1970, a Master of Philosophy in 1973, and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1976.
A respected voice in her community, Dr. Lindgren has been an active leader in her areas of expertise. She is a member of the Graduate Faculty Alumni Association of Columbia University, the Society of Architectural Historians, the College Art Association, and the Archaeological Institute of America. She has written extensively in the field, including articles to professional journals and books on art, archaeology and architecture. Dr. Lindgren has been recognized as a Kaltenborn Fellow.
Throughout her career, Dr. Lindgren has been recognized for her contributions. She was the recipient of the Alfred H. Barr Junior Award, and she won First Prize in the International Art History Manuscript Competition. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 21st and 22nd editions of Who's Who in the East.
