PALESTINE, TX, January 09, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Doris Paxton with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Doris Paxton celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Doris Paxton currently oversees her rental properties through her daughter, and still maintains her home in Palestine even though she lives in a retirement community for active seniors in Dallas. She retired as broker/owner of First Realty and RE/MAX 1st Realty of Palestine in 2009, where she had worked for 34 years. Ms. Paxton was also the owner of the Diet Center in Palestine, which was a significant part of her life and very challenging. Before marriage, she was a field representative for the American Cancer Society for the northeast Texas area.
Ms. Paxton graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1952 magna cum laude with the honors of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Lambda Delta honorary fraternities, Mortar Board honorary organization, Orange Jackets honorary service organization and was selected as one of six Bluebonnet Belles and was a nominee for Sweetheart.
Having worked her way through the university, Ms. Paxton held many interesting jobs including secretary to Specialized Machinery, Inc. which marketed the first scissor-like tree cutter which was the prototype of the giant tree cutters that are used today, and secretary to the State Representative Joe Kilgore, who later went to Congress. At the state capitol, she met her future husband, James R. Paxton, who also was a state representative, elected right out of law school. They married in 1954 and lived in Palestine, raising six beautiful, intelligent daughters: Mary, Ruth, Martha, Jane, Sarah, and Rebecca. Ruth was killed in an accident at the age of eight.
When Ms. Paxton first entered the real estate field, legal contracts were about one-half of a legal size page. Today it could be 36 pages or more, depending upon the addendums. It was a decided advantage to have her own in-house lawyer in James. Ms. Paxton is a former member of the Palestine Board of Realtors, where she served on the Board of Directors.
One of her most meaningful activities was with the Lay Witness Missions, under the auspices of the United Methodist Church. She and her husband led jointly for several years, over 100 Lay Witness Missions in churches of several denominations and in several states, with teams of witnesses up to one hundred people, depending upon the size of the church, who stayed in the homes of church members for the weekend experience. This included Friday night dinner and meeting, Saturday morning coffees, luncheon meeting, Saturday night dinner and meeting, and the Sunday morning worship service, all lay led. Lives were changed, churches were energized and refreshed, and they were, for Ms. Paxton, profound lifetime experiences.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Doris Paxton has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
