Dr. L'Allier may have started as a classroom educator; however, his interest in merging his background in education and instructional design with evolving technology of the internet and ability to deliver adaptive instruction over the internet has given him his claim in the publishing business. His work in adaptive computer based instruction began in Santa Fe, New Mexico, as a member of the Wilson Learning Interactive Technology group, a subsidiary of John Wiley & Sons. This group designed a series of key interactive video products that simulated various business situations within which the learner could interact. His history in the publishing industry also includes serving as executive in charge of product development and cultural adaptation at Nippon Wilson Learning in Tokyo, Japan in 1989-1990, vice president of instructional systems at Whole Systems International in Boston from 1990-1993, and as chief learning officer and vice president of research and development at NETg in Naperville, Illinois. He holds patents for Skill Builder--used for the delivery of adaptive on-line products, Automated Learning Program Creation--used for the design of adaptive courses, and related course and curriculum management technologies. Along with these patents, Dr. L'Allier holds more than 240 copyrights for various online instructional programs and video productions.
Throughout his career, Dr. L'Allier has served as an expert witness for Universal Training in Chicago, committee chair for CLO (Chief Learning Officer) Academy and MediaTec Publications, and an editorial board member for CLO Magazine. Dr. L'Allier has published numerous articles on learning and technology in publications such as Educational Technology, Journal of Computer Based Instruction, Performance & Instructional Journal, CLO Magazine, and Learning Age. He also served on the Editorial Advisory Board for CLO Magazine.
Likewise, Dr. L'Allier was a reviewer for Educational Technology in New York City and an associate editor for "Performance and Instruction" in Washington, D.C. Dr. L'Allier's video productions have included "Who Shot the Terminal?" in 1984, "The Tenth Woman" in 1987, "Working Toward the Future" in 1991, "Hand in Hand" in 2011, and "The Literary Coaching Series" from 2010 to 2011. Most recently, he was the co-producer of "The Harris-Price Case Simulation for CASA" in 2017 and the film "The Gate of Heaven" in 2018. Dr. L'Allier is a longtime contributor to the American Cancer Society, a court appointed special advocate (CASA) since 2007, and co-administrator of the Robert R. and Susan M. Beck Memorial Scholarship at the University of Wisconsin since 2008.
A member of the University of Wisconsin and University of Minnesota Alumni Associations, the Instructional Systems Association, the Boston Computer Society, along with other professional societies, Dr. L'Allier earned a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin in 1969. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science in 1973, also from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his studies in 1980 at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in curriculum and instructional systems. In 1984 Dr. L'Allier was named a Senior Fellow in the College of Education of the University of Minnesota for his work in adaptive computer delivered instruction. Dr. L'Allier received a Doris J.
