Specifically, she has served as the Regional Director for Counseling for AT&T from 1984 to 1996, as well as the Employee Assistance Program Administrator/Counselor for the United States Department of Energy from 1980 to 1981. Earlier in her career, Dr. Alexander served as Senior Crisis Intervention Therapist for the Emergency Psychiatric Service at a county general hospital from 1974 to 1979. Prior to these positions, Dr. Alexander has worked as Program Director and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Walden Resources in 1974 and as Rehabilitation Counselor at the Learning Disability Center in 1973.
As a lifelong learner, Dr. Alexander received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and Psychology/Sociology in 1972. She continued her graduate education, earning a Master of Education in Counseling and Human Development in 1972 and an Advanced Graduate Specialist Degree in 1973. Augmenting her clinical counseling experience, she additionally earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Nutrition from the American Holistic College of Nutrition in 1995. Dr. Alexander is a Nationally Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, a Certified and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a seasoned employee assistance program professional and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and Washington, D.C.
As a respected community leader, Dr. Alexander has been a clinical member of various professional associations including the American Counseling Association, the Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, as well as past president of the local Employee Assistance Professionals Association. She has been a contributor of articles to professional journals as well as a guest speaker on radio and television. Dr. Alexander also served as assistant professor in the Graduate Counseling Department at George Washington University.
Throughout her career, as a professional counselor and educator, Dr. Alexander has been celebrated for her outstanding contributions to her profession. In 1979-1980, she was bestowed the award for Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans and later made innovative strides in the Employee Assistance field. Likewise, Dr. Alexander has featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who of American Women.
