Prior to embarking on her professional path, Dr. King pursued an education at Brown University, initially earning a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1981. Subsequently, she obtained a Master's degree in missions from Columbia International University. Dr. King concluded her studies at Widener University, graduating with a Master of Education and a Doctor of Education in adult education and higher education, respectively.
Dr. King began her career as an operating room technician for the Kent County Memorial Hospital and a research assistant in biochemistry at Brown University. She later worked as a rehabilitation counselor at Talbot House, the owner of KPKing Computer Services, a faculty member at Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, an assistant professor of graduate school education at Lincoln Center for Fordham University. Furthermore, Dr. King earned tenure and was promoted to associate professor, full professor and director of the Regional Educational Technical Center at Fordham University (1997-2010).
Moreover, Dr. King served as the director and principal investigator for the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education Learning Anytime Anywhere Partnerships (FIPSE-LAAP grants), an adjunct faculty member at the Holy Family College Graduate School and Widener University's College of Human Services Professions, professor, program director and department chair at University of South Florida (2010-2015), a keynote speaker in her field, among other notable positions. In 2015, Dr. King has found success as a professor and a program director of doctoral programs in higher education at the University of Central Florida.
In addition to her primary professional responsibilities, Dr. King was the organizing advisor for the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology Society of Women Engineers, appointed to the advisory board for Glencoe Publications from 1994 to 2001, served as a reviewer for the Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering from 1994 to 1998, and many other journals; she is currently an editor for several book series for Information Age Publications. Her published works include "Technology, Innovation and Adult Learning," "Keeping Pace with Technology: Educational Technology that Transforms" and "Bringing Transformative Learning to Life," "Planning for Effective Faculty Development,'' "Fundamentals of Human Performance" and "Comparative Adult Education around the Globe." Dr. King has also held the posts of technical editor of the Journal of Afro-Latin American Studies and Literature, the founding editor and editorin-chief of Perspectives: The New York Journal of Adult Learning, co-editor of the International Forum of Teaching and Scholarship, and member of the review board for Adult Basic Education Journal, Journal of Transformative Education, and Journal of Faculty Development.
The president and chief executive officer of Transformation Education LLC, Dr. King was a religious educator in her community from 1982 to 1995. Interested in contributing to and maintaining connections in her field, she is currently affiliated with the Adult Higher Education Alliance, American Association of University Women, the American Association for Adult Continuing Education, the American Educational Research Association, the Commission of Professors of Adult Education, the Textbook and Academic Authors Association, among other prominent organizations. Notable for her work with doctoral students on research and dissertations, as well as her international research accomplishments, Dr. King pursued her career in academia out of a desire to combine her scientific background with innovations in technology and adult learning.
Unparalleled in her professional accomplishments, Dr. King has been the recipient of numerous awards. She has accepted such accolades as induction into both the International Hall of Fame of Adult and Continuing Education, and the TAA Council of Fellows, named a visiting professor to Nankai University in Tianjin, China, and received the Robert J. Menges Honored Research Award, AERA Research Award, and the TAA Outstanding Book Award. Moreover. Dr. King has been honored in such publications as Who's Who in America.
