President of Norton Associates Engineering LLC in Naples, FL, since 1971, Mr. Norton specializes in engineering design and manufacturing. Boasting more than 50 years of experience in the design and analysis of mechanical dynamic systems with an emphasis on high-speed machinery, he is also an expert in linkage and cam design, vibrations and machine design. He also continues to serve as an independent consultant since 1970 on various engineering projects that range from medical products to high-speed production machinery with many large and small companies across the globe. Mr. Norton formerly taught mechanical engineering, engineering design, computer science and related subjects for more than 40 years at the Franklin Institute, Northeastern University, Tufts University and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He retired from WPI after 31 years of service as the Milton P. Higgins II distinguished professor emeritus of mechanical engineering in 2012.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Norton worked as an engineer and senior engineer for Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, MA, between 1959 and 1981, where he designed cameras, related mechanisms and high-speed automated machinery. He also served as a project engineer for Jet Spray Cooler, Inc., in Waltham, MA, for three years between 1966 and 1969, designing food-handling machinery and products. Furthermore, he lent his expertise as a bio-medical engineer at the Tufts Medical Center and Boston City Hospital between 1971 and 1974, helping develop artificial hearts and non-invasive, assisted-circulation devices before ultimately transitioning into academia.

Mr. Norton is the author of several textbooks on kinematics, machine design and cam design, which have been used around the world in multiple languages. He has also contributed technical papers and scholarly journal articles on such topics as kinematics, dynamics of machinery, cam design and manufacturing, and computers in education. His most recent book, "Automotive Milestones," was published in 2016. In addition to his writings, Mr. Norton notably wrote DYNACAM, a cam design program that is used by more than 100 companies worldwide, LINKAGES, a linkage design program, and holds several patents in his field.

An elected fellow and life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Mr. Norton is also a former member of SAE International, Sigma Xi and Pi Tau Sigma. He was a longtime member and former program chairman, secretary and president of the computers in education division of the American Society for Engineering Education as well.

Honored numerous times for his contributions, Mr. Norton most recently received an Outstanding Career Achievement Award from the School of Arts and Sciences at Tufts University in 2009. He was also named United States Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in 2007 and received an Archie Higdon Award by the American Society for Engineering Education in 2004, among other awards. Mr. Norton has been cited in over 30 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.

Mr. Norton received an Associate of Science in mechanical engineering, cum laude, in 1962 and a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering, summa cum laude, in 1967 from Northeastern University, followed by a Master of Science in engineering design from Tufts University. He was later awarded with an honorary Doctor of Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2012. He is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts and Florida.
