With more than 40 years of professional experience, Ms. Duerig has excelled as the interim executive director for DCA, having also worked as the general manager of Zone 7 Water Agency since 2005. Prior to these appointments, she served as the general manager and chief engineer for the Scotts Valley Water District from 2003 to 2005, and as an attorney with Wendel, Rosen, Black and Dean LLP from 2000 to 2003. She previously held a number of positions with the Alameda County Water District, including as the production manager from 1992 to 1998, the division engineer from 1989 to 1992, and an associate and assistant engineer from 1986 to 1989.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Duerig found success as the director of water quality, a water quality supervisor, and a chemist with the Western Pennsylvania Water Company from 1975 to 1980. Ms. Duerig initially pursued an education as a student at Lehigh University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in fundamental science in 1974. She continued her studies at the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a Master of Science in civil engineering in 1978. After obtaining some experience in the field, she concluded her academic efforts at Santa Clara University, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2000. Furthermore, Ms. Duerig is registered as a civil engineer and certified as a water operator in the state of California.
A respected voice in her industry, Ms. Duerig has been active with a number of organizations in her community. She is a member of the California Bar Association and formerly on the Hazardous Waste Technical Advisory Committee of Alameda County. The former co-chair of the water reuse and potable reuse subcommittee of the American Water Works Association, she has also been on the boards of the Association of California Water Agencies, the California Urban Water Agencies and the State and Federal Contractors Water Agency. Throughout her career, Ms. Duerig has been celebrated in numerous publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
