Walter McFarlane accepted the J.D. Buscher Distinguished Attorney Award, the John C. Vance Legal Writing Award and an Air Force Commendation Medal.

After accruing more than 45 years of practiced industry experience, Mr. McFarlane retired from his role as an adjunct faculty member with the University of Richmond. At the beginning of his career, he excelled in the Office of the Virginia Attorney General as an assistant attorney general and the deputy attorney general. Likewise, Mr. McFarlane completed service in the U.S. Air Force.
Subsequently, Mr. McFarlane worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Governor's Office as well as the Department of Correctional Education. Over the years, he has found success with positions in the Department of Criminal Justice Services, the National Academies of Science and Engineering and T.C. Williams School of Law. In a career filled with highlights, Mr. McFarlane cites his service as chief counsel for the governor of Virginia was his biggest accomplishment.
A member of the Virginia Bar Association, Mr. McFarlane initially earned a Bachelor of Arts from Emory and Henry College. He later graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Richmond. Following these accomplishments, Mr. McFarlane was admitted to practice law through the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. McFarlane has been affiliated with the Chesterfield and Richmond Bar Associations, the Virginia and American Correctional Associations, and the Correctional Education Association. During his spare time, he has dedicated himself to a number of efforts through the Woodland Pond Civic Association, the Greater Midlothian Civic League, the American Red Cross, the Epilepsy Association of Virginia and the Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church. For his professional accomplishments, he accepted the J.D. Buscher Distinguished Attorney Award, the John C. Vance Legal Writing Award and an Air Force Commendation Medal. In the coming years, Mr. McFarlane intends to continue enjoying his retirement.
