A home healthcare aide from 1979 to 1989, Mr. Kurzdorfer earned a US Chess Master rating in 1981, the Life Master title in 1991, and was resident chess master at the American Chess School in Bradford, PA from 1989 to 1997. He previously was 'cellist and singer with Kurzdorfer and Cady in Buffalo, NY from 1978 to 1987, beginning his musical career as a church organist in the Buffalo area from 1964 to 1979.
A respected voice in chess and music, Mr. Kurzdorfer has been an active leader in his communities. The former president of the American Chess School and former member of the US Chess Federation was a judge for the Chess Journalists of America, a US Chess Federation certified chess coach and tournament director, the author of the Chessmaster 5000 endgame tutorial software, and author of three published chess books. In addition, Mr. Kurzdorfer is a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and sings with a barbershop quartet, several choruses, and his church choir.
Throughout his career, Mr. Kurzdorfer has been celebrated for his impressive contributions to several fields. In 2012, he accepted an Legal Office Assistant Diploma from Olean Business Institute.
