FREDERICKSBURG, VA, January 22, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Fred Dean Sisk with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Sisk celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Sisk, a U.S. Army veteran and former cartographer and security analyst, devoted many years to his career before retiring in 1995. Becoming a cartographer as the result of his military career, he first discovered the industry after serving as a first lieutenant battery commander with the U.S. Army Artillery between 1962 and 1965. Always holding a map under his arm while in uniform, once Mr. Sisk left the service he noticed that they all read "Published by the Army Map Service" at the bottom. Quickly submitting his résumé to the organization, which included a degree in geography, he was hired shortly thereafter.
Devoting 30 years to the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) and the Defense Mapping School, Mr. Sisk worked as a cartographer in Brookmont, MD, from 1965 to 1979 before becoming a senior cartographer, senior instructor and master instructor in Fort Belvior, VA, from 1979 and 1988. He later became a course manager and deputy division chief. He was new employees' training coordinator at Bethesda, MD, between 1988 and 1989, training coordinator in Reston Center, VA, between 1989 and 1990, and security analyst in Reston Center between 1990 and 1995. First headquartered at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, DC, then at Falls Church, VA, the Defense Mapping Agency was originally created in January 1972 to consolidate all U.S. military mapping activities. Since retiring, Mr. Sisk went on to work as a security officer for the State of Virginia between 1996 and 2018.
Enjoying his many years with the DMA, while working as a course manager in 1980, Mr. Sisk earned the opportunity to travel to the country of Sudan to help map the country for the Sudanese government. He, alongside one other officer, served as part of the Agency's mobile training team and headed to Africa, where they spent nearly two weeks laying the ground work for the job. It was a very rewarding and memorable experience.
Mr. Sisk has been active with several local organizations throughout his career. In recent years, he served as president of the Fox Run Homeowners Association, was an officer of election for the City of Fredericksburg, and member of the Public Transit Advisory Board. He has continued to serve on the Republican Presidential Task Force in Washington, DC.
An elected fellow of the International Biographical Association, Mr. Sisk is also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and member and former vice president and president of the Civil War Round Table. Affiliated as a member and master photographer of the International Freelance Photographers Organization as well, the organization has recognized Mr. Sisk numerous times with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Photography and an Honorary Degree of Distinction and added him to their Hall of Fame.
Mr. Sisk has held a Bachelor of Science in geography from East Tennessee State University since 1962 and a Master of Science in cartography from George Mason University since 1984. In 2017, he received an honorary Master of Arts in aerial photographic interpretation from the International Biographical Association. He has also been cited in more than 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southeast, and Who's Who in the World.
Born in Johnson City, TN, Mr. Sisk later married his wife Martha Lynn Robinson in August 1963. In the past year since he's retired, he has begun traveling more.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Fred Dean Sisk has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
