A recognized professional who has dedicated his career to tourism, public policy, destination marketing and international relations, Mr. Richer also lent his expertise as a public affairs advocate and public official across three different states.
A former public affairs advocate for the National Tour Association between 2007 and 2014, Mr. Richer worked with tourism leaders on an international basis where he was responsible for increasing the visitation between North America and the world. He was also the executive director for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau between 1996 and 2007, president of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Bureau between 1989 and 1995, executive director of the Nevada Commission on Tourism between 1983 and 1989, president of the Travel and Recreation Information Products between 1982 and 1983 and director of the New Jersey Division of Tourism between 1979 and 1982, among other roles. During his years as a public official, Mr. Richer notably served at the local, county and state level.
A member of multiple professional organizations over the past three decades, Mr. Richer served in various roles for the National Governors Association, the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association, the New Jersey Travel Industry Association, the Princeton Alumni Association and the Mississippi Tourism Association, among others. A graduate of Princeton University, Mr. Richer has been active on the board of governors for the Princeton Class of 1968 since 2016. As an undergraduate, he chaired the college yearbook, served as an officer of Circle K International, and was national chairman of Students for Robert F. Kennedy in 1968.
Mr. Richer served on numerous committees throughout his career as well, including as chair of South Coast USA and Visit US West. He has been the director of public relations and communications for Skal International USA between 2016 and 2018 and the western hemisphere director of the International Advertising Institute of Travel Awards at China University of Communications since 2018, and a director of "Believe in Africa" since 2016. On a local level, Mr. Richer served one term as the mayor of his home town, Randolph Township in New Jersey. Mr. Richer has been a member of the Jewish Federation of North America Emergency Committee since 2007.
Mr. Richer helped establish the Nevada State Tourism Office in Tokyo, the first state tourism office in Japan in 1986. He later testified in the United States Senate on international tourism marketing. Honored multiple times for his work, he was named Outstanding Tourism Leader in New Jersey and Mississippi by their respective state tourism associations. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award and Top Destination Marketing Award from the National Tour Association and membership in Marketing 100 Class of 2001 from Advertising Age for his work in Mississippi. Mr. Richer recently received the global Skalleague of the Year Award from Skal International in 2017. He has been showcased in several editions of Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
Born in Newark, NJ, Mr. Richer took an interest in the international arena early on. His career eventually evolved into tourism, which he truly enjoys. Mr. Richer has notably held a Bachelor of Arts in politics from Princeton University since 1968. The proud father of two sons, Mr. Richer enjoys stamp collecting in his free time.
