Dr. Lewis began his career as a systems engineer with the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio from 1981 to 1983. Following this appointment, he was software development manager for Diebold Nixdorf in Canton, Ohio from 1983 to 1985. From 1985 to 1986, he worked in computer product sales at Arrow Electronics Inc. in Solon, Ohio. After this opportunity, he held the position of senior system analyst with British Petroleum in Cleveland, Ohio from 1986 to 1989. From 1989 to 1993, he contributed to Telxon Corp. in Fairlawn, Ohio as a product manager. Dr. Lewis was active as director of product marketing for the Norand Corp. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 1993 to 1997. He also served as a wireless technology research director for Gartner Group.
Dr. Lewis continued his career with Telxon Corp. from 1997 to 1999 as vice president of mobile system products in the Woodlands, Texas. He was appointed to the role of director of strategy and business development, and handheld computers at Compaq in Houston, Texas from 1999 to 2000. He was further associated with Compaq as vice president of the Cable and Wireless AServices joint venture from 2000 to 2002. Since 2002, he has been president of Product Acuity Consulting. Dr. Lewis has also served as chief commercial officer for Arsenal Digital Solutions in Cary, North Carolina, senior vice president of mobile data for Allone Health and an adjunct professor for the School of Business at the University of Phoenix.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Lewis received his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the Ohio State University in 1981. Following this achievement, he obtained his Master of Business Administration from the University of Akron in 1988. In 2001, he earned a graduate study certificate in e-business from Capella University. He concluded his education in 2007, with a Doctor of Philosophy in organization and management from Capella University. He is registered as a professional engineer in Ohio and has been certified as a project management professional by the Project Management Institute. Dr. Lewis also holds certification as a new product development professional from the Product Development and Management Association.
In addition to his career, Dr. Lewis is one of the founding members of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 802.11 WiFi standards committee, and led the development and commercialization of a market defining wireless LAN product line. He has also led the development and commercialization of a number of other products including ATMs, consumer activated gasoline dispensing, bar codes, handheld computers, wireless networks and cloud based data storage. He is also a member of the Academy of Management, the Product Development and Management Association and the Association for Computing Machinery. Dr. Lewis is a regular contributor of articles to professional journals and is a member on many community boards.
In 2014, Dr. Lewis was the recipient of the Faculty Leadership Award from the School of Business at the University of Phoenix. He was also honored with the Outstanding Teaching Award in 2016 from the School of Business at the University of Phoenix. He has received numerous grants for patents for such things as multi-level encryption for wireless networks, a management system for integrating heterogeneous software and multi-communication wireless access points, among others. Dr. Lewis was previously selected for inclusion in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest, the 26th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, the 30th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, the 34th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Business and multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
