With 35 years of professional experience, Mr. Luis has been a lead structural engineer and advisor for Point Engineering Ltd. since 2018, having previously served the company from 2006 to 2009 and again from 2010 to 2016. A senior engineering instructor and chief engineer with Haward Technology Middle East from 2016 to 2018, he formerly served as a convoy commander with the United States Navy Reserves from 2009 to 2010. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was a structural engineer with Msl Services Corporation from 2003 to 2006, with Heerema Marine Contractors in 2002, and with Atlas Engineering Ltd. from 1999 to 2003. From 1995 to 1999, he was a staff engineer with Barnett and Casbarian, and from 1991 to 1995, he was a structural engineer with Textron Marine and Land Systems. Earlier in his career, Mr. Luis was a naval architect with Ingalls Shipbuilding from 1985 to 1991 and an applications engineer with Peck and Hale LLC from 1983 to 1985.
Mr. Luis began his career as a student at the State University of New York Maritime College, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in 1983. He is a registered professional engineer in Nigeria and a former registered professional civil engineer in the state of Louisiana.
A respected leader in his industry, Mr. Luis has been active with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Institute for Continuing Education and Training, and the SUNY Maritime Alumni Association. A retired veteran Naval Reservist, he also participated in Operation Enduring Freedom when mobilized from 2009 to 2010.
Throughout his career, Mr. Luis has been recognized for his contributions, including having received a scholarship from the Henri Kummerman Foundation in Paris, France, from 1979 to 1983. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including the fourth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
